Overstrand Municipality is currently experiencing challenges with the supply of certain electrical materials.

The previous material supply contract expired on 30 June 2026. The process to appoint a new three-year contract started in October 2025, with the intention that the new contract would be in place from 1 July 2026.

However, the procurement process has not yet been finalised and is currently in its final stages.

As a result, the Municipality is currently unable to purchase certain electrical materials under the expired contract.

 

Additional stock was purchased to cover approximately three months before the previous contract expired. However, the available stock has been used faster than anticipated, and some items are now running low or are no longer available.

This includes certain materials used for streetlight repairs and maintenance, which may affect the Municipality’s ability to attend to some electrical maintenance requests.

The Electrical Department is exploring alternative options to manage the situation and limit any impact on service delivery while the procurement process is being finalised.

The new contract is expected to be in place by the end of October 2026, after which orders can be placed. However, suppliers may have lead times, which means that new stock may only become available during November 2026.

Residents are therefore asked for their understanding while the Municipality works through this temporary supply challenge.
